How to Select / Purchase a WC for your home
When it comes to designing a new bathroom or renovating your old one, choosing a new toilet might not seem exciting, but there is definitely plenty to think about.
When selecting or purchasing a WC for your home, there are several factors that you need to consider first:-
- What is your current trap? P-Trap or S-Trap?
- What is the rough-in?
- What is your preferred type of WC?
What is your current trap? P-Trap or S-Trap?
One of the factors you must take into account is the type of trap you have in place at your home.
These traps are used in order to prevent sewer gases from entering your home or building. In other words, these are the exit routes of the waste from the bowl.
P-Trap is whereby the sewage outlet is through the wall. S-Trap, however, is whereby the sewage outlet is through the floor.
What is the rough-in?
Another factor to take into consideration is the rough-in, which is the distance between the finished wall and the center of the toilet’s waste outlet.
In terms of P-Trap, you will need to measure the distance between the floor and outlet, whereas for S-Trap, you will need to measure the distance between the wall and outlet.
Also, an important factor to take note of would be the placement of the bolt as it is used to help create a watertight seal between the toilet bowl and the toilet flange and to secure the toilet to the floor or wall.
What is your preferred type of WC?
Lastly, you’ll need to know what type of WC you’re looking for.
