The Kitchen Triangle

Occupying the kitchen in one’s home could sometimes lead to unnecessary messiness and disruption as you’ll need to complete a variety of activities in order to prepare a meal, in which the most common ones are food preparation, cooking, and cleaning. That is why it’s important to design your kitchen in such a way that everything you need is of easy access, convenience and comfort. And that’s where the Kitchen Triangle comes into place. But first, what is the Kitchen Triangle?

To start things off, the Kitchen Triangle is based on three main work areas; the sink, the refrigerator, and the stove. According to the rule, these spaces should vaguely form a triangle which allows you to perform your daily routine with complete ease and comfort. And that is basically the main goal of this efficiently-designed concept – to set up distinctive working stations of the kitchen while creating an optimum work space to minimize the distance and work needed for you to operate the kitchen in a seamless and efficient manner.

According to researches, each side of the triangle should not be lesser than 4 feet and not more than 9 feet. Circumference wise, the triangle should not be between 13 to 26 feet. Cabinets or other barriers should not be more than 30 cm from any leg of the triangle. And lastly, work stations should be no less than 110 cm, as measured between the cooking zone, counters and cabinets.

All of the above should be arranged in a loose triangle so that you can execute daily kitchen tasks without any obstruction. This will provide you with a working environment that is practical, pleasant, and spacious enough for you to operate your kitchen smoothly.

In summary, although the kitchen triangle’s design is pretty basic, but it certainly helped a lot of homeowners guarantee efficiency in the kitchen for decades. Most planners have used this concept as their base for a lot of kitchen designs and layouts, making it the ideal kitchen concept in the past and also the future.
